Grant Korgan shows how living life with a glass-half-full mentality, positive spirit and "mad luv" breaks down barriers and inspires the goosebumps of life. After a paralyzing back injury in a 2010 accident bringing the news that he would never walk again, Grant pushed those notions out of his life and ultimately pushed himself to the South Pole (the first adaptive athlete to accomplish this incredible feat). Grant reminds us that regardless of ability or perceived disability, we are all truly UNLIMITED!
A nanoscientist and professional athlete, Grant Korgan is the author of Two Feet Back, an autobiography chronicling his injury and road to recovery. His South Pole expedition is also featured in the documentary, The Push: A South Pole Adventure. Grant and his amazing wife Shawna exude the power of positivity!
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
A car accident left Carlana Stone paralyzed at the tender age of 17. Today, although wheelchair-bound, Carlana skydives, skis, flies planes, and heads up a non-profit organization, The Courage Community. She is living proof that we can accomplish anything we put our minds to.
Marilyn Hamilton shares the story of her injury and how she turned a tragic situation into a remarkable one. Her life was transformed following a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed from the waist down as the result of a hang gliding accident. Her bulky wheelchair was not conducive to the active life she led before the accident and this frustration led to her creation of the Quickie wheelchair. Hamiltons reinvention of the wheelchair has touched and changed the lives of the people who use them.
